    1991 AANS brings unprofessional conduct charges against George Jacobs, MD.
    1991 Jacobs v. AANS complaint filed; complaint dismissed.
    1992 New Jersey appellate and supreme courts uphold propriety of AANS professional conduct program in Jacobs litigation.
    1995 Procedural Guidelines revised.
    1995 Professional Conduct Committee recommends suspension of Donald C. Austin, MD, from AANS.
    1996 Bylaw amendment adopted preventing resignations of members with unprofessional conduct charges pending.
    Apr. 1997 Dr. Austin’s suspension affirmed on appeal to AANS general membership.
    Dec. 1998 Austin v. AANS complaint filed.
    Oct. 2000 U.S. District Court in Chicago grants AANS Summary Judgement in the Austin case.
    Apr. 2001 Lustgarten v. AANS complaint filed.
    Jun. 2001 7th U.S. Court of Appeals upholds the District Court’s decision in the Austin case.
    Jul. 2001 Lustgarten case voluntarily dismissed.
    Nov. 2001 AANS Board of Directors approves a resolution to publish in the Bulletin the names of sanctioned members for complaints heard after Jan. 1, 2002.
    Jan. 2002 U.S. Supreme Court refuses to hear Austin appeal.
