The AANS’ Online Education Subcommittee recently took on a renovation of AANS online education. Feedback from users informed the redesign and the new AANS hub for online learning, AANS NeuroU, launched in late January 2021. NeuroU is easier to navigate and has a more robust search feature that allows you to quickly find courses related to an area of interest. Both free courses and courses discounted for AANS members are available.

AANS Online Education Subcommittee Chair Greg Zipfel, MD, FAANS, commented, “While the AANS’ library of online resources has been building the past few years, the content really exploded thanks to COVID-19. The need for quality education from top neurosurgical faculty didn’t go away, it just became impossible to deliver in person. The need for CME didn’t go away, it just needed to be earned remotely, on the learner’s own schedule and device.”

“We knew we had the right content available: more than 6,000 people have registered for AANS online education. We tackled this project to make e-learning easier for our members and NeuroU delivers. In addition to the more robust search function, you can now sign up for a course in 60 seconds,” added committee Vice Chair R. Webster Crowley, MD, FAANS.

Visit NeuroU and search by subspecialty, format and audience at the top of the page. New courses, as they appear, will be featured, as will the CME collections that have been built recently, including Sessions in Neurosurgery for the Advanced Practitioner (SNAP), which includes nearly 40 modules of essential education for APPs new to neurosurgery.

“While SNAP was designed to bring new neurosurgical APPs up-to-speed quickly on best practices for their new position, we believe the real benefit is for the neurosurgeons themselves. We all know how much time it can take to train new staff. With SNAP, the teaching time is minimized in a meaningful way. New APPs watch, and can re-watch, courses that provide them with the foundations of neurosurgical care. The neurosurgeon’s burden of training becomes instead a task of refining and personalizing, saving time and money,” commented Dr. Zipfel.
