Peptide carries molecules and nanoparticles to acutely damaged areas of the brain

Most traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) occur as a result of car crashes, falls and violence. The initial TBI cannot be repaired. However, scientists feel they have found a technology that can limit the damaging effects patients could potentially encounter with a TBI. “We have found a sequence of four amino acids, cysteine, alanine, glutamine and lysine (CAQK), that recognizes injured brain tissue,” said Erkki Ruoslahti, MD, PhD, distinguished in SPB’s NCI-Designated Cancer Center and senior author of the study. “This peptide could be used to deliver treatments that limit the extent of damage.” To read more, click here
