A Concordia University study shows that education and physical activity can significantly slow down grey-matter aging

Taking the stairs instead of opting for an elevator has always been associated with making the body strong and healthy. However, this study shows there may be another connection for the body: taking the stairs may also improve your bran health. Continuing your education may also have a similar affect. The more flights of stairs a person climbs and the more years of education they complete, the younger their brains are. According to their findings, brain age decreases by 0.95 years for every year of education completed and by 0.58 years for every daily flight of stairs climbed. “There already exist many ‘Take the stairs’ campaigns in office environments and public transportation centres,” says lead researcher and scientist at Concordia University’s Montreal-based PERFORM Centre Jason Steffener. “This study shows that these campaigns should also be expanded for older adults, so that they can work to keep their brains young.” Click here to read more.
