Hokkaido University researchers investigated what makes a specific nerve cell in the brain regenerate when others do not
Nerves that are damaged with the central nervous system of adult mammals do not regenerate. However, granule cells do. This cell is located in the cerebellum. If fibers from a granule cell are cut, they will regenerate. In this study, researchers looked to examine the role of a specific glutamate receptor, GluD2, in fiber regeneration.
