The study suggests that we experience symbolic objects as social entities

Objects can just be objects or can have some sort of social meaning assigned to them. In this study, scientists found that patients can experience symbolic objects as social entities. Objects that can serve as social entities can be road signs, national flags or wedding rings. There is a social significance in each one of these objects. “It is really interesting that brain areas associated with social interaction and reasoning are also active when our participants look at static, dead objects. It tells us that these objects have gained symbolic meaning through social interaction in the preceding group interventions,” explains Kristian Tylen, lead researcher for this study.
