Results cast doubt on pervasive and costly practice of overnight stays for low-risk patients

According to a new study by researchers at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital indicates that children who come into the hospitals presenting with a simply skull fracture can be sent home without concern as long as there is no evidence of brain injury or neurological symptoms. Many children who present with this injury are admitted for a precautionary overnight stay that includes observations. These stays cause families to incur thousands of dollars in medical costs. Based on their research, none of these overnight stays saw any complications or required additional imaging or tests. To read more on this study, click here.
