Research Could Inform New Therapy for Parkinson’s Disease

Although scientists are unsure of the molecurlar causes of Parkinson’s disease, they are sure that motor problems and tremors are caused by a loss of dopaminergic neurons. These neurons are our main source of dopamine. Dopamine is regulates emotional response and plays a vital role in movement. Before this study, the loss of dopaminergic neurons was thought to be irreversible. However, a paper by Brad Morrison’s research group in the Department of Biological Sciences at Boise State University suggests these neurons can be regrown in adult mammals. To read more, click here
