Why do we remember some events? Why do we forget others? Human brain prioritize memories that are rewarding and replays them when at rest based on a new research study from the University of California, Davis, Center for Neuroscience. “Rewards help you remember things, because you want future rewards,” said Professor Charan Ranganath, a UC Davis neuroscientist and senior author on the paper. “The brain prioritizes memories that are going to be useful for future decisions.” If our brains only retain detailed information from what occurs during each day, it makes sense that only the memories that are associated with rewards would be saved.
