Long-Term Stress Erodes Memory

This is the first study of its kind to link short-term memory and prolonged stress, such as that sustained by bullying victims, soldiers and those with demanding boss. Continued stress can erode memory, and the immune system plays a key role in cognitive impairment. This research with mice could one day lead to the development of treatment for repeated, long-term mental stress. Mice that were repeatedly exposed to an aggressive intruder had a hard time remembering where the escape hole was in a maze they had mastered before the stressful period began. “The stressed mice didn’t recall it.
