Reports new study in Biological Psychiatry

According to this study, if women use cannabis during pregnancy, their children had a thicker prefrontal cortex compared to those children who were not exposed to cannabis in the womb. With the growing legalization of cannabis throughout the U.S., it is important to understand how cannabis exposure during pregnancy could affect children. “This study is important because cannabis use during pregnancy is relatively common, and we know very little about the potential consequences of cannabis exposure during pregnancy and brain development later in life,” said author of the study Dr. Hanan El Marroun, of Erasmus University Medical Center in The Netherlands.
