Cell’s protein factory may hold key to stalling cognitive decline

It has been predicted that more than 100 million people will be affected by Alzheimer’s disease by the year 2050 unless new treatments are discovered. Currently, there are very few new drugs in the pipeline so this has become an area of great interest for many researchers and scientists. Riqiang Yan, PhD, is the holder of the Morris R. and Ruth V. Graham Endowed Chair position in Biomedical Research. In this position, Dr. Yan is working to investigate how to stop the formation of dystrophic neurites (DN). These DN cause the bundles of nerve components that are found in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. To read more about this study, click here
